Thank you Irene. So many innocent lives are being lost in the name of imperialism and it needs to be called out. I really appreciate your support.

I agree with many of the points made here and I grieve for innocent Palestinian lives lost too, especially children. Netanyahu is a tyrant preoccupied with his own fate and political agenda and as a result left Israel in a state of vulnerability. The U.S. and its imperialistic, cop-of-the-world history certainly has blood on its hands. The Iraq invasion was clearly about oil.

But all that being said, the Holocaust happened in my husband’s lifetime (though while a baby and older than me:) and I know survivors of death camps personally. That is why Jewish people have to fight for our survival, we’ve been scapegoated for too long and Israel is surrounded by enemies who would like to banish all Jews. With Anti-semitism on the rise around the world, fueled by narcissists like trump who spew vitriol, Israel is always facing an existential threat.

I deplore the lives lost by Israeli attacks but Jews did not start this fight and we are a peace-loving people with big hearts. There are always some bad apples and too many of them find their way to political power and cause harm (like Netanyahu) but there should have been a 2 state solution years ago. And to the extent our “national interests need to be protected” well isn’t that one more reason to get off oil? That’s where I see the connection to the climate crisis.

I pray this darkness leads to enlightenment and the true common enemy revealed; global ecological collapse which will make us all victims though human activity clearly caused climate breakdown in the first place. Failure to recognize that our civilization is threatened--and that reversing course should be our one shared mission--is the ultimate tragedy🌎💔

I agree Betsy, and that is where my interest in this imperialism stems from: the way in which it has accelerated ecological collapse. It is all interested and we won’t avoid a mass extinction event without facing into it, and unravelling it. I wrote about it here: https://open.substack.com/pub/erinremblance/p/a-clear-eyed-view?r=p06xf&utm_medium=ios&utm_campaign=post
