I’m convinced one of the reasons the masses don’t appreciate wildernesses they’ve never seen it. Only 3% of the Earth is classified as such currently.

I totally agree. And not just wilderness, but just being outside at all. We spend something like 97% of our time in buildings or in cars/transport to get between buildings.

One cause for this is also the complete separation from nature. Rather than integrating it in our cities, we're cutting down every living being and pushing them further and further away.

We're taking holidays far away in the middle of the forest, instead of growing more trees around us.

Some cities got it right, and this disconnect is much less present.
